Fired Ice Queen

One of the children's masterpieces awaiting collection from the studio.

All Aboard!

This pottery Noah's Ark was built, from scratch, by the reception year at Astwood Bank First School near Redditch.

The children coiled the structure from snakes of clay and then each added a tile depicting an animal of their choice - the result - an encrusted ceramic masterpiece.

Mayan Hieroglyphics

Another day, another Redditch school - this time Church Hill Middle!

The school were looking for a creativity project that would enhance the school environment in some way. Hand made ceramic tiles produced by the students themselves, certainly ticks all the right boxes!

Seventy five Year 5 students spent the day making clay interpretations of Ancient Mayan Hieroglyphics. Once fired, the tiles will be wall mounted in school, all together, to form a magnificent low relief panel.

Bilston Birds meet Top Dog!

For the past 10 years Jon has enjoyed a professional association with Bilston Craft Museum and Gallery in Wolverhampton. As well as facilitating clay workshops in the purpose built Craft Studio, his work has featured many times in the Gallery's exhibition programme.

These feathered critters were made by the Portobello Youth Group and will be included in an exhibition at the Gallery called 'Top Dog', opening on the 7th March 09.

The birds will be fired, glazed and suspended from the Gallery ceiling.

Great Balls of Clay

One day - 'Throw a pot' workshop participant Anita Harvey makes some novel additions to her thrown pots. Next 'Throw a pot weekend workshop takes place on the 21 & 22 Feb. For details please visit: http://www.eastnorpottery.co.uk/pages/eastnorpotteryadultworkshops.htm

Eyes Down

Just take a look at the concentration on the faces of these guys!

Chris, Katie, and her mum Jean get to grips with the wheel on our 'Throw a pot' one day workshop on Sunday. Considering none of them had worked on a wheel before all five participants turned some lovely shapes and surprised themselves at the quality of their work.

A Forest of Creativity

During January and February, Jon will be working with all the children at Marlbrook Primary School in Hereford to produce a series of ceramic wall panels. Each year group will make a pottery oak tree with every child in the school contributing their very own clay leaf. Mitch from year 6 puts the finishing touches to his rugby inspired oak leaf.

Flying Potter at The Rep

More than 100 staff from the St Thomas Children's Centre in Birmingham recently sampled the benefits of working with clay. Jon was invited to facilitate two workshop sessions as part of their away-day at The Repertory Theatre. The focus of the workshops was collaboration and each group produced a fantastic coiled planter encrusted with self portraits!

The terracotta pots will be fired and returned to St Thomas' in a couple of weeks.
