Social Media on the Internet

I spent a very informative morning at the Longbridge Innovation Centre in Birmingham recently, learning about the marketing potential of social networking on the internet. Business Link West Midlands developed a programme of workshops designed for small and medium sized businesses. This is the second event in as many months that I've attended, and I must say they have both been excellent. The first workshop looked at Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). My appetite well and truly whetted, myself and 30 other delegates were treated to a comprehensive presentation on the wonders of Facebook, Twitter, and Linked in - to name just a few of the areas covered. In fact it was information overload, and I came away dazed and slightly confused with the enormity of the task ahead. The workshop was led by Susan Hallam (check out http://www.susanhallam.com/) - a very engaging performer.

John Masefield High School's Tile Panel

Jon's been working with Gifted and Talented art students from John Masefield High School in Ledbury for some time now. The ceramic outcome - a stunning, collaborative wall panel installed near the main hall.

Smashing Collection

We always allow ourselves 2-3 weeks to dry, fire and glaze the children's work from our fab themed holiday workshops. Once they emerge from the kiln, the sculptures are arranged on the table in alphabetical order ready for 'collection weekend'.

They always look so stunning 'en mass' I'm sure you'll agree.

The next children's workshops take place this week, on Wednesday the 2nd, and Thursday the 3rd of June, and include a go on the potter's wheel. "Surf's Up" provides the theme and inspiration.

Welland Primary Animals

The week prior to the Easter holidays I had a lovely couple of days working with the children and staff at Welland Primary School, please see previous blog entry: http://eastnorpottery.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

The giraffe was the final piece to emerge from the kiln. These wonderful creatures were exhibited at the Spring Gardening Show at the Malvern Showground, at the beginning of May, where I ran workshops for three days. Please see the following link for more information: http://www.threecounties.co.uk/springgardening/schools-gardens.html.

After that the animals will be delivered to the school their final resting place, acting as a permanent reminder of what can be achieved by teamwork.

Jon the Potter Portrait

I was presented with this wonderful sketch by one of the Year One children at Badsey First School in Worcestershire - definitely captured an essence!

We produced a collaborative T-Rex as part of their on-going study of animals.

Evesham Nursery School

It was such a lovely sunny day we decided to take the clay outside. The children squashed clay into and onto all kinds of different surfaces to make richly textured blobs. We then took the little nuggets inside and press-moulded them together to make decorative plates. The pieces are currently exhibited at the annual Voices and Visions showcase in Worcester Cathedral, see here for more information: http://www.voicesandvisions.org.uk/ The show runs till 28th June 2010.
